Following on from our successful summer camp and our involvement with local girls football clubs, we were able to put on a girls football camp, which saw around 70 girls aged 8-16 sign up on the 28th of October. This camp was run with the help of the amazing coaches at Everton in the Community’s Premier League Kicks and The James Greenop Foundation.
Our girls camp saw the return of some children who enjoyed the camp this summer so much they had to come back for more. The day started with the girls being split up into age groups, the EitC Premier League Kicks staff had the girls take part in skills challenges. Our aspiring footballers spent the day perfecting their passing, shooting, heading, goalkeeping and penalty kicks before taking part in a mini tournament to showcase the skills they had learnt early in the day.
The Girls football camp was a huge success! Following on from our camps earlier in the year and the women’s world cup we are seeing more girls want to play and we are happy to get involved and help these young girls build up their skills in a fun and safe environment. At Tornado we are heavily involved in girls’ grassroots football, we are seeing more girls who are wanting to play football for the first time after watching the Women’s World Cup and the Women’s Super League.
At Tornado we strongly believe in the potential that football has in developing young people, whilst also allowing them to develop their confidence and make some new friends. Young girls have had even less opportunities than young boys in football, due to a lack of girl’s football clubs as well as less space for children to play. We are working with local teams to give every child that wants to play football and develop their skills a real chance.
This year has been an amazing year of football for us, with our amazing camps so far this year and being able to introduce the children to players from both Everton’s First team and Everton Women.
Tornado would like to say a big thank you to Everton in the Community Premier League Kicks and The James Greenop Foundation for their continued partnership with these camps.
We are excited to be working with The James Greenop Foundation and Everton in the Community on some more camps in 2020. Keep up to date with our latest camp news by liking our Facebook page.
