Girl Power!

Our own Tornado Girls had the amazing opportunity recently to visit the Everton Women’s football team at USM Finch Farm. They were able show off their skills as well as featuring alongside the players in their annual team photograph.

As a result of regularly attending numerous events alongside Everton in the Community, the coaches have now formed a great relationship with the Tornado team which was reiterated by coach Dale Davies.

“The girls have a great attitude every time they come to train with us…They really look up to players like Gabby George, who is a real role model for budding female footballers on the Kicks programme…To get the chance to visit USM Finch Farm and see how the likes of Gabby and the other players prepare for the game will have been a brilliant experience for them and something I am sure they won’t forget.”

The Tornado team arrived where they were able to train on the pristine pitches at Finch Farm. After that, they were asked to join the Everton Women and their coaches for the official team photo for the 2019/2020 season. The girls where then gathered together to listen to the Everton Women’s coaches who informed the youngsters about the fundamentals of football as well as offering advice about how they played.

Tornado Director and team coach Keith Paterson believes experiences like this could prove to be pivotal in motivating more young girls to pursue their love of football.

“It’s been great for the girls. They’ve got to meet players who they’re starting to see on the TV and see how they train and how they are part of the Club. For them, it’s a chance to meet their heroes and hopefully they’re the next generation.”

Tornado would like to thank the Everton Women’s team and coaches for an extremely memorable experience.
