Aspiring Young Footballers Meet Their Heroes

Richy WatersTornado

Tornado has been really happy to work with Everton Soccer Schools and The James Greenop Foundation at our football camps this year. At our August Camp Everton first team stars Leighton Baines, Yerry Mina and Cenk Tosun surprised the 80 children!

The trio spent the afternoon taking part in skills challenges, where they helped the young aspiring footballers perfect their passing, shooting, heading, goalkeeping and penalty kicks before posing for some photographs, selfies and autographs with the kids.

We are massive football supporters here at Tornado and strongly believe in the potential that football has in developing young people.

As kids we spent endless hours kicking a ball around the school playing fields or in the streets near home. These days, children don’t get those opportunities for many different reasons. We want to help get more children active and playing football. With fewer places for children to play, soccer camps provide a safe environment for them to learn new skills and make new friends.

Tornado are heavily involved in girls’ grassroots football and more girls are wanting to play football for the first time after watching the Women’s World Cup and the Women’s Super League. We provided places for 30 girls from mixed teams in the region on the camp.

The coaches from Everton Soccer Schools worked with mixed groups on a range of football skills and practice matches, teaching them how to play the “Everton Way”. These sessions helped them build confidence, learn teamwork, but most importantly, have fun and make friends.

Speaking after the camp Keith Paterson, Managing Director of Tornado said “We are really happy to be able to work with Everton Soccer Schools and The James Greenop Foundation. These camps provide excellent coaching from the Everton in the Community coaches who are all amazing with the kids. Children love to meet players, and to be able to play a game with Leighton, Cenk and Yerry is something the kids will tell their mates about for weeks. It’s great to see so many girl footballers here for the camp, enjoying football and playing with massive smiles on their faces”.

Tornado would like to say a big thank you to Everton, Everton Soccer Schools and The James Greenop Foundation. We can’t wait for the next camp in October.
